The issue concerns the bill which disapproves of the verdict of the European Court of Human Rights. It announced on 5 November that hanging crosses in public places violates other people’s right to freedom of religion. The MPs of Ludwik Dorn’s new party, Poland Plus, created a bill in which they repudiated the verdict and stated that the cross is not only a religious symbol, but also part of the Polish national tradition. The bill was signed by the representatives of all parties, including Stanisław Żelichowski (Polish People’s Party), Jarosław Gowin (Civic Platform), as well as Waldemar Wiązowski, Krzysztof Jurgiel and Anna Sobecka (PiS). The MPs of PiS were called in by Przemysław Gosiewski, who is said to have reprimanded them for signing the bill along with the MPs of the hated Civic Platform without the consent of the party’s authorities.
REKLAMA
"I do confirm that I received a call to immediately show up at Przemysław Gosiewski’s office," says PiS MP Waldemar Wiązowski, one of those who signed the bill. “All I can do is express my astonishment at the fact that political issues are coming between matters such essential for Poland. In such a situation all the representatives of the country should be unanimous.” We did not manage to get in touch with Przemysław Edgar Gosiewski. The club’s spokesman, Mariusz Błaszczak, has not been picking up his phone. Nor did he answer our text message in which we asked him to comment on this issue.
