China's first fully solar-powered drone on Saturday completed its maiden flight. The Qimingxing 50, or Morning Star 50, took off at 5:50 pm Saturday from an airport in NW China’s Shaanxi and remained airborne for 26 minutes before landing. The manufacturer AVIC announced all systems functioned well. Propelled by six solar battery powered electric motors, the fully electric driven drone can fly at an altitude of 15-20 km for a long period of time continuously. Its solar panels are fixed to its wings which have a combined length of 50 meters.
