An offer to join the government or the Prime Minister’s Office would be one of those you cannot say "no" to. In the time of crisis and with all the issues the party is dealing with, none of them could refuse to take Donald Tusk’s offer. For an MP or a senator such an offer means political promotion and prestige. But it would be hard to find any eurodeputy who would find an offer of moving to Warsaw interesting. “The Ministry of Interior and Administration or the Sport Ministry would be some kind of a challenge, but the worst thing would be to get an offer of becoming spokesman or Secretary of State in the Prime Minister’s Office. A salary of 8,000 zlotys, having to work 24/7 and the never-ending struggles with journalists is not a pleasant perspective to look forward to. I hope Donald Tusk does not decide to pick me,” says one of PO deputies. And what if he does decide to choose you? “I will definitely not say ‘no’, but I’d prefer not to have to make such a decision,” he answers.

No wonder. A eurodeputy’s salary currently amounts to about 32,000 zlotys. Add to that 300 euro of allowance for every day spent in the European Parliament and about 1,500 euro monthly for flights. Altogether, it amounts to about 150,000 zlotys a month.
